First look at Rami Malek and Indira Varma in OEDIPUS

This bold new adaptation of Sophocles' play from c. 429 BC by Old Vic Associate Artist Ella Hickson is co-directed by Matthew Warchus and Hofesh Shechter. The production runs for a limited time until March.

Pictures of Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Indira Varma (Present Laughter) in Oedipus at The Old Vic have been released.

Oedipus is a tragedy by Sophocles that follows King Oedipus as he desperately seeks to uncover the cause of a plague devastating Thebes, only to discover a harrowing truth about his own identity.

Joining Malek and Varma in the cast are Nicholas Khan as Creon, Joseph Mydell as Corinthian, Cecilia Noble as Tiresias and Nicholas Woodeson as Shepherd. The dancers from Hofesh Shechter Company are Justine Gouache, Charles Heinrich, Kenny Wing Tao Ho, Adam Khazhmuradov, Kim Kohlmann, Oscar Jinghu Li, Yen-Ching Lin, Rachelle Scott, Jian-Hui Wang and Zee Zunnur.

The creative team is Choreography & Music by Hofesh Shechter, Set & Costume by Rae Smith, Lighting by Tom Visser, Sound by Chris Shutt, Casting by Jim Carnahan, CSA, Children’s Casting by Saffeya Shebli and Voice by Charlie Hughes-D’Aeth. The Associate Director is Lilac Yosiphon, Associate Choreographer is Kim Kohlmann, Associate Set by Niall McKeever, Associate Costume by Joanna Coe, Associate Lighting by Chris Burr, Music Collaborator is Frédéric Despierre and Props Supervisor is Zoë Wilson for Propworks.

Oedipus is playing at The Old Vic until 29 March 2025.
