Jack Lowden and Martin Freeman will star in The Fifth Step at @sohoplace.
Directed by rising star Finn den Hertog, an associate artist at NTS (National Theatre Scotland), Lowden reprises his role as Luka in this funny and unflinching honest drama about addiction, masculinity and faith.
The story begins with James, a man who has dedicated many years to the 12-step programme of Alcoholics Anonymous. When he agrees to become the sponsor of a newcomer named Luka, they embark on a journey together. As they approach Step 5, their discussions inevitably lead to confessions, with Luka’s progress reliant on revealing secrets tied to his past struggles with alcohol. However, it soon becomes apparent that James also harbors dark secrets of his own.
The production has been further developed for its West End premiere and will grasp the new opportunities for restaging it that a venue like @sohoplace will ofer.
The creative team also includes set and costume design by Milla Clarke, lighting design by Lizzie Powell, sound design by Mark Melville, movement by Jenny Ogilvie and casting by Stuart Burt CDG.
The Fifth Step will play at @sohoplace from 10 May - 26 July 2025.
