Ava Pickett’s Susan Smith Blackburn Prize-winning play will receive its world premiere in London at the Almeida Theatre, a home for new work that asks big questions.

Running at the Almeida Theatre from 13 May, the cast includes Liv Hill (The Doctor, Adelaide Festival), Siena Kelly (That Is Not Who I Am, Royal Court) and Tanya Reynolds (White Rabbit Red Rabbit, @sohoplace).
Lyndsey Turner (Chimerica) will direct the play set in the year of Anne Boleyn’s death. Fiendishly smart and funny, 1536 asks whether female solidarity can survive in a world where barbarism and misogyny are state sanctioned.
1536 will play at the Almeida Theatre from 13 May through to 7 July 2025.
