Simon Armitage's adaptation of the Brothers Grimm Fairytale returns to the Shakespeare's Globe following last year's critically acclaimed run.

The re-telling of the classic story includes poetry, brand new songs, mayhem and a dose of festive magic! Follow the two siblings who are abandoned in the forest by their parents and stumble upon a house made of candy, owned by a wicked witch. The children must use their cleverness and bravery to outwit the witch and escape her clutches.
Directed by Nick Bagnall and written by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, the cast includes Mason Clark-Whale (professional debut) as Ensemble, Ned Costello (Leaves of Glass, Park Theatre) as Hansel, Lizzie Grace (Wish You Were Dead, UK Tour) as Ensemble / Cover, Aaron McCallum Hepple (Robin Hood, Rainton Arena) as Ensemble / Cover, Harry Hepple (Hello, Dolly!, London Palladium) as Dad / Swanny, Jenni Maitland (Emilia, Vaudeville Theatre) as Narrator, Jamie-Rose Monk (Christmas Actually, The Southbank Centre) as Ensemble, Yasemin Özdemir (School for Scandal, The RSC) as Gretel, Beverly Rudd (The Lion, The Witch & the Wardrobe, Bridge Theatre) as Mum / Witch, and Marc Zayat (Romeo and Juliet, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre) as Ensemble.
New to the creative team are Magnus Mehta (Co-Composer / Orchestrator), Patrick Pearson (Co-Composer / Songwriter), Chi-San Howard (Movement Director), and Liz Flint (Voice). They’re joining last year’s team of Nick Bagnall (Director), Simon Armitage (Writer), and Cory Hippolyte (Associate Director). This year's production is co-designed by Rae Smith and William Fricker.
