Duncan Macmillan and Thomas Ostermeier's new version of Chekhov's masterpiece will play for a limited London run early next year.
Cate Blanchett and Tom Burke headshots.
The Seagull will play at the Barbican Theatre for a limited 6-week run at the Barbican Theatre from February 2025.
Cate Blanchett will return to the Barbican stage for the first time since she performed in Botho Strauss’ Big and Small (Gross und Klein) in 2012. She will be joined by Tom Burke (Rosmersholm, Duke of York's Theatre).
The Seagull follows Arkadina, a celebrated actress whose larger-than-life presence dominates both the stage and her personal relationships. Arriving at her family's country estate for the weekend, she is soon swept into a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Her son, the playwright Konstantin, wrestles to break free from her imposing legacy as he seeks his own creative path, while her lover, Trigorin, becomes the focus of young actress Nina's infatuation.
The play will see how their lives intersect and how each character battles with ambition, desire and disappointments.
The production will follow A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Buddha of Suburbia which perform at the Barbican Theatre this Autumn/Winter.
