A Midsummer Night's Dream in London
Starring:
Mathew Baynton
Experience a ‘ravishing fusion of flamboyancy and fun’ (Guardian) as the smash-hit sell-out production of A Midsummer Night's Dream transfers to London from The RSC to brighten up your winter. Experience a fresh and engaging interpretation that will delight both longtime fans and new audiences alike.
A Midsummer Night's Dream - The Story
Weaving together multiple storylines centred around the upcoming wedding of Duke Theseus and Queen Hippolyta, A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most captivating stories. The story follows four young lovers whose romantic entanglements become increasingly complicated due to the mischievous interventions of the fairy king Oberon and his servant Punk.
Meanwhile, a group of amateur actors, preparing a play for the duke's wedding, also find themselves ensnared in the magical mayhem. Together the various plots deliver a delightful mix of understandings and enchantments, ultimately leading to a joyful resolution where love triumphs and harmony is restored.
About A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream was written by William Shakespeare in the late 16th century and is believed to have been first performed around 1595-1596. Throughout its history, this story has seen numerous adaptations and interpretations, ranging from traditional stage productions to modern films, ballets, and even operas. Hailed by critics and audiences during its run at the Royal Shakespeare Company in February 2024, now the striking production will have a winter run at the Barbican Theatre.
A Midsummer Night's Dream Cast and Creatives
Matthew Baynton returns to the production as Bottom. Baynton is known for his work in television and film, gaining widespread recognition for his roles in the children's comedy series Horrible Histories and BBC comedy series, Ghosts. He also co-created and starred in the acclaimed BBC comedy series The Wrong Mans.
Directed by Eleanor Rhode, she is joined by Set and Costume Designer Lucy Osborne, Illusion Director and Designer John Bulleid, Lighting Designer Matt Daw, Composer Will Gregory, Sound Designer Pete Malkin, Movement Director Annie-Lunnette Deakin-Foster, Fights and Intimacy by Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown and Casting Director Matthew Dewsbury CDG.
A Midsummer Night's Dream offers an enchanting escapism that will be the perfect contrast to the cold, dark days of the season. Jam-packed with timeless themes of love, transformation, and joyful resolution that will bring warmth and delight during its limited run.

DifferentFun evening. Although very difficult with some scenes understanding dialogue due to screeching, shouting and masks. Staging was good, theatre fantastic. Good atmosphere overall.
