A Midsummer Night’s Dream was first produced at the Bridge Theatre in 2019,where it was one of the theatre’s biggest hits, with the Observer commenting, ‘five stars might not be enough’. It is now returning for a revival six years later.

In this classic Shakespearean comedy, four frustrated young Athenians caught in a confusing love square flee into the wilderness, where they become the playthings of the mischievous, trickster fairies who rule the woods. What follows is a night of revels and illusions where nothing is as it seems.

The cast will include JJ Feild (Austenland, Captain America) as Oberon/Theseus, Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice, This Time with Alan Partridge) as Titania/Hippolyta, Emmanuel Akwafo (For the Black Boys…, Sex Education) as Bottom, David Moorst (Killing Eve, Blitz) as Puck/Philostrate, Paul Adeyefa (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Demetrius, Hilson Agbangbe (Wonderboy) as Starveling, Bella Aubin (Macbeth) as Peasebottom, Jemima Brown (Why Am I So Single?) as Fairy, Nina Cassells (Swive) as Hermia, Kat Collings (The Lion King) as Moth, Ali Goldsmith (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) as Cobweb, Molly Hewitt-Richards (The Secret Garden) as Snug, Felicity Montagu (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Quince, Lennin Nelson-McClure (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Mustardseed, Jem Rose (making her professional stage debut) as Snout, Dominic Semwanga (making his professional stage debut) as Flute, Lily Simpkiss (making her professional stage debut) as Helena, Divesh Subaskaran (Life of Pi) as Lysander and David Webber (Small Island) as Egeus.

David Moorst, Paul Adeyefa, Felicity Montagu, Lennin Nelson-McClure and Adam Cunis will be reprising their roles from the 2019 production.

Nicholas Hytner directs, with production design by Bunny Christie, costumes by Christina Cunningham, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound design by Paul Arditti, music by Grant Olding, movement by Arlene Phillips, and hair and make-up by Susana Peretz. James Cousins is co-director and co-movement director.

The Bridge Theatre specialises in immersive productions, with an innovative layout that allows 400 people to stand close to the action while 670 seats wrap around a dynamic, constantly shifting stage - making it the perfect setting for Shakespeare’s chaotic comedy of mistaken identities, transformations, and illusions, which features a play within a play gone hilariously wrong. With a star-studded cast, it’s sure to be as much a hit this time around as it was six years ago.
