Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder in London
This joyous new British comedy musical packed venues to the rafters for two seasons at the Edinburgh Festival then did the same in Bristol and Manchester. Now it’s landing in the West End for a strictly limited season, a murderously funny masterpiece described by Broadway World as “death by giggles”.
Why you should book Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder tickets
- Winner of Musical Theatre Review's Best Musical Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022.
- Audiences and critics have raved about this clever combination of comedy and murder mystery in this mini-musical.
- This show contains an incredibly catchy soundtrack that will make you wish you could listen to them on repeat.
The plot?
‘Best Friends Forever’ Kathy and Stella are the hosts of a failing true crime podcast broadcast in Hull. When their favourite author is killed, they decide to solve the murder only to find themselves hurled into a madcap whodunit that has been hailed as comedy gold. Will they put their friendship on the line to become part of the story, can they solve the case, and could their podcast go viral before there’s another killing?
Bronté Barbé plays Kathy and Rebekha Hinds plays Stella, both reprising their roles. They’re joined by Imelda Warren-Green as Erica, also reprising her role.
The Edinburgh Festival loved it - This show is an absolute hoot!
You don’t get to ace two sell-out runs at Edinburgh unless you’re really funny. Expect a bold, bright, big-hearted musical starring an amateur crime-fighting duo whose antics make audiences cry with laughter. It’s very loud, wonderfully silly, and completely irreverent. No wonder the critics love it as much as audiences.
Bronté Barbé’s theatre credits include Newsies at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. She won the Gyearbuor Asante Prize for Acting while training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and was one of the final 10 chosen for the role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Over The Rainbow.
Rebekah Hinds featured in Oklahoma! at the Young Vic / West End and the world premiere of the Tom Jones musical What’s New Pussycat. She’s also worked on The Girl in The Polka Dot Dress at the Birmingham Rep, Paradise at Hampstead Theatre, in Much Ado About Nothing, Humble Boy and the Olivier Award-nominated The Government Inspector. On TV Rebekah appeared in 2019’s Scarborough, 2014’s Inside No. 9, and 2004’s Shameless.
Imelda Warren-Green wowed us in Doctor Who: Time Fracture on TV. Imelda graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts with a first-class honours degree in Musical Theatre and her theatre credits include Zo in Public The Musical, Kris in Spitfire (Charing Cross Theatre), and Miss California in the UK tour of Little Miss Sunshine.

Loved it…please tour the show!!This was an off the cuff booking, wasn’t sure wha to expect at all and had plans to see a different show that fell through. I’m glad it did. It was such a funny, entertaining show. Loved it so much that I have downloaded the EP of released songs from Apple Music. Wish the run in London was longer as I wanted to take another friend, but if it was to tour the uk it would be even better!!

An excellent night outKathy and Stella is a refreshingly funny and unique show. It’s brilliantly performed by the whole cast, but especially the two leads who are outstanding. With so many re-makes of musicals in the West End, this show stands out as one that is new, current and very good.

Review: KATHY AND STELLA SOLVE A MURDER at Ambassadors Theatre
by Stuart King | Friday, June 14 2024, 07:48
In common with other relatively small cast London musicals (like the hugely successful Operation Mincemeat which continues to enjoy its extended run at the Fortune Theatre), KATHY AND STELLA SOLVE A MURDER relies upon sharply choreographed moves and costume changes to ensure the non-stop cultural reference gags land with pizzazz. Thankfully, in bringing together Bronté Barbé and Rebekah Hinds — a pair of supremely talented performers who manage effortlessly to lift even the kitschest tongue-in-cheek and colloquially corny moments — the producers have hit comedy gold.

Along with other relatively small cast musicals (like the hugely successful Operation Mincemeat currently playing at the Fortune Theatre) KATHY AND STELLA SOLVE A MURDER relies upon sharply choreographed moves and costume changes to ensure that the non-stop cultural reference gags land with a slick and zingy pizzazz. Thankfully the casting team managed to match Bronté Barbé and Rebekah Hinds — a pair of supremely talented performers who manage effortlessly to lift even the kitschiest tongue-in-cheek and colloquially corny moments. This is a small show which definitely punches way above its weight.
