Waiting For Godot in London
Starring:
Ben Whishaw
A fresh new revival of Samuel Beckett's classic theatre-changing play is returning to the West End from September 2024 for a limited run. Starring the respected stars of film, TV and stage Lucian Msamati, who thrilled us in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Death in Paradise, and Ben Whishaw of Mojo and Hamlet fame, it remains one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.
Waiting For Godot - The Story
Waiting For Godot is all about Vladimir and Estragon, two men who wait by a tree for a man called Godot. They don’t know who he is, why they’re meeting him or when he’s going to arrive, but they do know something incredible could happen when he does.
Godot keeps sending messages that he’s on the way, but will he ever turn up? Lucky and Pozzo join the conversation and decide not to end it all despite their sufferings. While Vladimir and Estragon don’t feel they really belong anywhere, they’re looking for Godot to supply enlightenment. The resulting hope they feel helps them to rise above their futile existence.
Waiting For Godot cast and creative team
Two respected actors take the starring roles – Ben Wishaw and Lucian Msamati. Lucian Msamati's long list of theatre credits includes Master Harrold and the Boys, Amadeus, A Wolf in Snakeskin Shoes, and many more, along with a load of excellent work on TV and in the movies. Starring alongside him will be the multi award-winning British actor Ben Wishaw (The Seagull, Paddington)
Directed by James Macdonald, the rest of the creatives will be announced nearer the time, as will the remaining cast.
This is your chance to see one of the world’s most influential plays, an eccentric and thoroughly enjoyable exploration of the human condition.

Horrible plot and desolate themesWhy do we want to see a play with a few guys in a desolate scenery with one guy pulling another guy with a leash and lashing him. Wanted to see the basis of the common "waiting for Godot" comment when wait forever fort something but this play was atrocious and don't undcerstand its point. We left mid-way, unique for us. Fantastic stage set set upI felt the essence of the play was ... banckruptcy of romantic period in the 19th century, followed by even more gloomy times in the advent of modernist period. After all the last 450 years of, progress and industrial revolustions, have not taken humanity that far. I suggest visitors should read the synopsis of the play and chunk the play in sections.

Dated and unexploringWaiting for Godot was always challenging but will attract return audiences who have matured and will expect new and thought-provoking interpretation. This was a return to adolescence and did not deliver. We left at the interval.

Review: WAITING FOR GODOT at Theatre Royal Haymarket
by Stuart King | Friday, September 20 2024, 04:54
Samuel Beckett’s dystopian nightmare in which Vladimir and Estragon occupy a desolate landscape with merely a tree and a rock to occupy their thoughts, has become a byword for existential limbo. The environment causes the fractious codependent pair to scramble incessantly in their bid to fill the void with commentaries on the mundane — boots, hats, carrots and a failing prostate. They bicker and disagree in their loneliness, as they await the arrival of the mysterious Godot who may somehow confer meaning on their situation and existence.
