Totem - Cirque du Soleil in London
Totem is the latest and best-yet spectacular of a show from Cirque Du Soleil, a magnificent bunch of remarkable human beings whose contortions, dizzying tricks and extraordinary physical and creative talents have delighted audiences around the world. Now it's in London, and it's playing at the magical Royal Albert Hall.
Totem is a touring show by Cirque du Soleil. It premiered in Montréal, Canada, back in 2010, created by the notoriously talented Robert Lepage. The theme of this extraordinary show is the evolution of humanity, revealed from its primordial, amphibian state to the human race's aspiration towards flight, and inspired by a host of ancient myths from around the globe.
In 2013 the show won the year's New York Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, no surprise when everything they do is so extraordinary, so magical that you really can't figure out how they do it. While many of their productions have been cleverly re-staged to suit an indoor venue rather than an actual circus tent, this one was purposely designed for theatres, and the result is surprisingly intimate. You really feel like you're right in the middle of the action.
If you've never seen Cirque du Soleil perform before, either on TV or live, you're in for a huge treat. It is nothing short of spectacular. The set is mind-blowing, designed by Carl Fillion with lush projected images by Pedro Pires. Visually impressive doesn't cover it. This is an experience you really don't want to miss, and once you've seen it it'll stick in your mind for years to come. Truly awesome!
Who is this show for?
Whatever your age, you're very welcome to experience the magic. Just bear in mind, as parents, that if you bring a child under two years old they must sit on your knee for the whole performance, and stay safely seated throughout.

Amazing eveningSpellbound, so afraid if you looked away for a second you could miss the next amazing thing. Although I am an adult, the wonder of the show made me feel like the excitement of a child.

DisappointingDisappointing compared to last four years. Definitely a shorter show and after reading programme there were acts in there that were not in show. Less aerial acts than other years. No wow factor. Seating in second row in loggia boxes had restricted viewing. Not good value for price paid. All in all expected better.

Defiantly a must see!The show was amazing! The only thing we didn’t like was where we were sitting (at the side of the stage) when the diabolo act was happening some of the other cast was standing on stage behind him and we missed pretty much the whole scene. Other than that the show was brilliant and we would defiantly recommend to others!

Amazing and tremendous skillWe arrived half an hour early, was quickly and easily seated after collecting drinks, amazing show. Interval half way through. Although we bought some of the last available tickets at the side, viewing was still very good and we got to see much of the mechanics which improved the experience. Highly recommend a visit, Royal Albert Hall amazing as were the actors/acrobatics/singers etc.

ColourfulI was just a bit disappointed because it wasn’t as spectacular as last year’s show. Lots of things were fantastic but there was a bit too much time spent on things like the clown in the boat and even our 9 year old gymnast was bored by that, as was I. The opening was fabulous and the finale spectacular but not as much acrobatics etc included in the body of the show as in past years (I’d also been years ago).
