Till The Stars Come Down in London
Till the Stars Come Down, Beth Steel’s acclaimed new play, is transferring from the National to the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket for its theatreland premiere this summer. The critics adore this deliriously amusing, passionate family drama.
Till the Stars Come Down the story
Sylvia and Marek are getting married. It's a gorgeous hot summer's day and everyone's in the mood for a celebration. The family gathers to meet and welcome Marek into the fold. But as the vodka flows, people get drunk and the dancing becomes more frenzied, passions boil over. Will the far limits of love be tested, and if so will love conquer all despite the fact that the wedding has opened up an uncertain future nobody could have expected? This brilliantly funny play reveals how one family struggles to cope in a world that suddenly seems to be changing alarmingly fast.

The show wowed audiences and critics alike at the National Theatre in 2024, staged in-the-round at the National’s Dorfman Theatre to enrich the experience. The production was filmed and is currently available to watch through the National's online streaming service, National Theatre at Home. There will also be on-stage seats on sale at the Haymarket Theatre for an extra-vivid, immersive night out.

National Theatre's TIL THE STARS COME DOWN announces West End transfer
by Emmie Newitt | Monday, March 10 2025, 10:26
The sold-out production, penned by former National Theatre writer-in-residence Beth Steel, was praised by critics as a "beautifully observed and bruisingly hilarious play" (Time Out) during its run last year.

Review: TILL THE STARS COME DOWN at National Theatre, Dorfman
by Stuart King | Monday, February 5 2024, 12:33
In a post-industrial East Midlands town where the largest employer was once the coal mines but is now a warehouse, three sisters prepare for the wedding of one of their number to a Polish immigrant. The scene is primed to unveil a gamut of familiar tropes — class disenchantment, resentment of immigrants, decades-old family feuds and of course the appalling spectacle of drunken wedding dancing en masse. But Beth Steel's caustic family drama also has some unexpected skeletons in its closet, and the excellent cast seem hell-bent on freeing them.
