The Witches in London
There’s another Roald Dahl classic coming to the West End. Will it join Matilda The Musical as an all-time theatreland hit? A wonderful co-production with the Roald Dahl Story Company, this is The Witches, a vibrant new musical adaptation of the author’s timeless story full of fun, bravery, and warmth.
The Witches tickets – A festive West End treat
The Witches is one of Roald Dahl's best-loved tales. It has sold more than 11 million copies since 1983, when it was first published. Directed by Lyndsey Turner, the National Theatre's musical adaptation kicks off on 7th November 2023 and runs through the festive season until 7th January 2024.
See Daniel Rigby in The Witches
The brilliant BAFTA Award-winner Daniel Rigby plays the hotel manager Mr. Stringer. He won his BAFTA for his leading role as Eric Morecambe in the 2011 BBC film Eric and Ernie. Katherine Kingsley plays the worst witch of all, the Grand High Witch. She’s no stranger to Dahl, having played the Acrobat’s step-sister in the Matilda The Musical movie. Sally Ann Triplett plays Gran, with a huge list of West End and Broadway theatre credits including roles in Sweeney Todd and Oklahoma.
All about The Witches – Lethally scary!
Real witches are not at all silly. They don’t bother with pointy hats and broomsticks. They are, in fact, lethally dangerous. And this is their most evil plan... ever. The plot follows Luke and his Gran as they battle a gang of witches, determined to stop the evil women from getting rid of all the children in England. Luke is only ten years old and his gran has a dodgy heart, so they’re in for a battle. Will they take this vital chance to stop the witches from ridding England of children?

The witches are played by Julie Armstrong, Chrissie Bhima, Zoe Birkett, Maddison Bulleyment, Miracle Chance, Daniele Coombe, Molly-May Gardiner, Tiffany Graves, Bobbie Little, Tania Mathurin, Amira Matthews, and Alexandra Waite-Roberts.

The Chef Chevalier at Hotel Magnificent is played by Irvine Iqbal. The rest of the Hotel Magnificent team is played by Adrian Grove, Jacob Maynard and Ben Redfern. As you can imagine there’s a huge cast of youngsters involved.
There’s a large, talented creative team on board, which bodes well for this charming story. The book and lyrics come from the Olivier Award-winner Lucy Kirkwood, with music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee Dave Malloy.
The Set and Costume Designer is Lizzie Clachan, the Choreographer is Stephen Mear and the Music Supervisor is Nigel Lilley. The show’s Music Director is Cat Beveridge and the Lighting Designer is Bruno Poet. The Co-Sound Designer is Alexander Caplen and the Co-Sound Designer is Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
