The Tempest in London
Starring:
Sigourney Weaver
The Jamie Lloyd Company is back, this time with a joyous and captivating season of Shakespeare plays at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Alien star Sigourney Weaver makes her West End debut as Prospero in the Bard’s gorgeous exploration of revenge and forgiveness.
The Tempest - The Story
The story? The location is a remote island where Prospero, a wizard, conjures up a violent storm and wreaks havoc on the survivors of the shipwreck he causes, including the brother who betrayed him. Typical, wonderful Shakespearian themes of mistaken identity, love and magic follow, directed to perfection by Jamie Lloyd himself.
The Tempest Cast and Creatives
Sigourney Weaver (Prospero) is loved for her movie roles in Alien, Gorillas in the Mist, and Avatar, the winner of multiple Academy Award nominations as well as a Golden Globe award. Jude Akuwudike (Alonso) is no stranger to the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and Young Vic, including recent appearances in Kyoto and A Mirror and also loved for his work in the movies The Little Mermaid and Beasts of No Nation.
They will be joined by Jason Barnett (War Horse) as Stephano, Selina Cadell (The Madness of King George) as Gonzalo, Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) as Trinculo, Mara Huf (The Effect) as Miranda, Forbes Masson (Macbeth) as Caliban, Mason Alexander Park (Cabaret) as Ariel, James Phoon (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Ferdinand, Oliver Ryan (Dune) as Sebastian Tim Steed (The Crown) as Antonio.
The creative team includes Set and Costume Design by Soutra Gilmour and Lighting Design by Jon Clark. The Sound Design and Co-Composing come from Ben and Max Ringham with Co-Composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante. The Movement Director is Fabian Aloise, the Associate Director and Text Editor is Jonathan Glew and the Casting Director is Stuart Burt CDG. The Musical Director is Giles Deacon and the Intimacy Coordinator is Ingrid Mackinnon. The Associate Costume Designer is Anna Josephs and the Props Supervisor is Fahmida Bakht. The Production Manager is Lloyd Thomas.
Heading to the West End for a limited season, The Tempest is a timeless exploration of magic, power and redemption that resonates across generations.

A fun night out, but nothing to write home aboutGood sound and lighting design, but poor use of staging and a rather static and uninspiring cast-wide performance throughout.
