The Rocky Horror Show in London
Starring:
Jason Donovan
Performed in 30 countries, translated into 20 languages, seen by more than 30 million theatre lovers... and now Richard O’Brien’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza of a musical is back in the West End with another absolute legend – the awesome Jason Donovan - playing Frank ‘n’Furter. What a hoot!
Why you should book The Rocky Horror Show
- The Rocky Horror Show is jam-packed with electrifying energy, iconic music, and unforgettable characters.
- A cult classic where audience participation is not just encouraged, but essential to the experience of seeing this show.
- When a musical hits the mark in so many places you can bet your last pound it’s a classic. This one probably qualifies as a National Treasure.
The star and the plot
Jason Donovan has been busy playing the iconic part in Sydney and Melbourne, a smash hit down under. He met his wife on the London show back in 1998, so the role has sentimental value. As well as starring roles on TV he’s wowed the West End in a multitude of roles since 1992, most recently in the Dominion Theatre’s Grease in 2022 and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat at the London Palladium the same year.
The plot tells the story of two squeaky clean college teens, fresh-faced Brad and his fiancée Janet. When fate leaves their car broken down outside a spooky old house they meet the charismatic Dr Frank’n’Furter. But the doctor is not what he seems and an adventure to remember follows, full of wicked frolics and frivolity, beautifully directed by Christopher Luscombe.
You’ll join Brad and Janet for a crazy adventure you’ll adore, packed with timeless tunes like "Sweet Transvestite", "Damn it Janet", and the epic pelvis-thruster "Time Warp". Find your fishnets, grab some glitter and glam, and hit the Dominion Theatre for a night to remember.
Let’s do the Time Warp...
Tim Curry made the role of Frank-n-Furter famous in the 1973 London production of the original show. He went on to play the sinister doctor in the 1974 Roxy production, 1975 Broadway Production and 1975 film. Tom Hewitt took the role in the 2001 Broadway Revival and by David Bedella in 2015’s live tribute. In the 2016 TV movie Laverne Cox played transgender female Frank. And in cinemas across the world have been packed out with dressed-up revellers year after year.
This time around Hugh Durrant is the Designer and Sue Blane the Costume Designer, with Nathan M. Wright the Choreographer and Nick Richings the Lighting Designer. Gareth Owen is the Sound Designer, Richard Hartley created the Original Musical Arrangements and Greg Arrowsmith is Music Supervisor.
Charlie Ingles is the Musical Director & Additional Arrangements expert and Christoper Porter is Associate Costume Designer. Darren Ware is Wigs & Make Up Supervisor and Russell Godwin is the Associate Sound Designer, with Andy Barnwell as Orchestral Manager and Martin Mckellan as Dialect Coach.
The live band comprises Liam Spencer-Smith on guitar, Dan Humphreys on bass, Allan Cox on drums and Dave Webb on the reeds.
Join more than thirty million people who have seen this show live across a busload of countries, in all sorts of languages, over the last 50 years! It's a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that's both outrageous and utterly enjoyable, The Rocky Horror Show is coming back to the West End for a limited time.

Rocky horror rocks on !I just didn’t like Jason ´s wig ! Brillant in the role but why not Give him a little more glamour with a brillant hair style ? I wouldn’t take children under 15 to see this show. Some children were in the audience. It is hard to take it all in and could be disturbing ! Open sex scenes and shooting. Woke before woke. Inclusive society in the free world ! Richard O’Brian opened the path in 1975 … Let’s keep the freedom we once had !

Just as good as 1973The show is as good now as it ever was. I first saw it in New Zealand and didn’t think I would ever enjoy it as much as I did then but how wrong can you be. I thought there were parts where the music reverberated through you and drowned out the amazing vocals, which was a shame. Let’s hope it’s still going in another 50 years!

Rocky Horror without a soul. Avoid this production.I have been a Rocky Horror fan for many years and seen performances all around the world. It never happened to me to watch a performance with scripted audience participation (fake: actors in the audience faking the AP!), no standing and dancing for the Time Warp?? The RHS was born as an anticomformist and irreverent hymn: this production seems to me very "conventional" and RH fans will understand. A Rocky Horror without a soul. Acting very average or below, characters re-written and completely distorted into flat caricatures. Choreography good and music is astounding (of course), well that at least. Don't dream it, be it. If you are a RH fan: avoid this production.

Damn it, janet! It was all round very entertaining! I found myself dancing with the people to my right, then I jumped to the left. Put my hands on my hips... The cast were fantastic with the added bonus of having Richard O'Brien on stage as the narrator in real life! The hecklers had the audience and cast in stitches! Brilliant night :) thanks.

by Phil Willmott | Monday, August 10 2015, 09:43
Revivals of the cult musical THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW have made regular appearances in the West End since it started life in the 1970s in a small theatre off the Kings Road in Chelsea. But it was cinema that really established the piece as a classic.
