The Pajama Game in London
The Pajama Game – A musical comedy romance with show tunes to die for
Back in 1954 the Pajama Game took to the stage on Broadway, a production that ran for almost three years and won a Tony award. In 1955 the original West End show opened at the London Coliseum and ran for almost two years, with Max Wall, Edmund Hockridge and Joy Nichols at the helm. It was revived in 1973 to popular acclaim and reappeared again in 2006, winning another Tony Award, this time for Best Revival of a Musical. And now it’s back after a sell-out stint in Chichester, set to thrill lovers of top class musical romance.
The Pajama Game - The story
The workers are churning out pajamas at a break-neck speed. They deserve a pay rise, and a strike is brewing at the factory. Out-of-towner Sid Sorokin, charming and handsome, is the new head. He fancies the gorgeous Babe, a feisty leading voice in the union, but their love affair is nipped in the bud as hostilities run high and Sid is forced to sack her.
The factory workers are plotting to sabotage the production line. Secret meetings take place, relationships change, allegiances shift and jealousy raises its ugly head. Can Sid take matters in to his own hands and bring peace to the factory? Will his love affair with Babe stand the test of industrial action? You’ll have to wait and see whether love conquers all!
Wonderful show tunes to brighten your day
This is a real feel-good musical, directed by Richard Eyre, with show tunes you’ll find yourself singing days later. The music and lyrics are by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, the writers behind the hit musical Damn Yankees. Listen out for popular tunes like Hey There, Hernando's Hideaway, Steam Heat and I'm Not at All in Love, Rags to Riches for Tony Bennett, Whatever Lola Wants, Heart and more. And you can expect masterful choreography by Stephen Mear, who has concocted some breathtaking dance routines.
The Pajama game is bright and effervescent, lively and fun, a laugh a minute with romance at its heart.

Dated Broadway show lacking in story lineThis show must have been relevant in 1954 when it was written it is now dasted and we are used to the book and the songs relating to the story line. I am afraid in spite of a very strong cast and band it just does not grip you and hold your attention.
