A Streetcar Named Desire in London

Starring:

Anjana Vasan, Patsy Ferran, Paul Mescal

The intensity and beauty of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire makes it one of his most beloved works. Returning to the West End stage for a limited run ahead of its US premiere in 2025, don't miss Rebecca Frecknall's 'mesmerising' (The i) production.

The Story - A Streetcar Named Desire

First performed on Broadway in early December 1947, A Streetcar Named Desire explores the life of Blanche DuBois, a Southern belle who has fallen on hard times. When she moves in with her sister Stella and her brutish husband Stanley in New Orleans tensions flare between them, resulting in a powerful clash of class, desire and mental deterioration.

About A Streetcar Named Desire

Recognised as one of the most critically acclaimed plays of the 20th century, Rebecca Frecknall's production was first performed at the Almeida Theatre in 2022. It was a resounding success that enabled it to transfer to the West End where it became the fastest-selling production in any Ambassador Theatre Group venue. This A Streetcar Named Desire production received 6 Olivier Awards and won 3, including Best Revival. It heads back to London ahead of a US premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

What a performance from Patsy Ferran !

What a performance from all involved. A real shame Patsy Ferran didn't get the best actress Olivier Award in the end. Jadie Comer must have been outsanding in Prima Facie to steal the prize from Patsy...
