Rose in London
Starring:
Maureen Lipman
This is the award-winning, critically acclaimed production of Martin Sherman’s Rose. The play transfers to the Ambassador’s Theatre in the West End for 28 brilliant performances, a limited four week season beginning on Tuesday 23rd of May 2023. This transfer follows a sell-out run at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, and another at London’s The Park Theatre, and the marvellous Maureen Lipman is the star of the show. Grab yourself some Rose theatre tickets and experience the drama for yourself.
Martin Sherman's solo one woman play reveals the Jewish 20th century. It appeared online early in the covid pandemic but first premiered at the National Theatre as well as on Broadway in 1999. In the decades since then it has become ever-more relevant as war and climate change drive refugees from their homelands – and their struggles once more hit the headlines. This is a powerful plot examining the scars left by a brutal history.
Maureen Lipman is an Olivier Award winner of an actor who has delighted us in Oklahoma, Daytona and Wonderful Town. The playwright Sherman has also written Bent, Messiah, and the movie Mrs. Henderson Presents. The creative team includes direction from Scott Le Crass, design by David Shields, musical composition and sound design by Julian Star, plus lighting design by Jane Lalljee.
What's the plot of Rose?
Meet Rose, a woman whose dramatic journey through anarchic times whisks her from the horror of Nazi- occupied Europe across the Atlantic to sample the infamous American dream. Rose is just one woman, but her life is one millions of people will empathise with. Born in Ukraine, Rose’s progress from the ghettoes of Warsaw to the USA reveals her survival in the face of violence and bigotry. This is a truly moving account of an extraordinary past and a strong reminder that there’s still a lot to fight against.
The story of the 20th century is told by one woman as she reveals how absolutely everything changed during the 1900s except the violence imposed on the weak by the strong. Take the chance to buy cheap tickets for Rose while you can – this is a hugely popular theatre experience and tickets are predicted to sell out fast.
