People, Places and Things in London
Starring:
Denise Gough
Are you ready for a dramatic deep-dive into addiction? Duncan Macmillan's smash hit play returns to the West End to impress audiences all over again with its compelling portrayal of one woman's battle to sober up and accept herself.
Accomplished writer Macmillan is known for his success on Lungs, Every Brilliant Thing, Don Juan Comes back From the War and more. It’s once more directed by Jeremy Herrin, who directed the original 2015 National Theatre production. The stars are aligned and the verdict is out: it’s un-missable.
Why you should book People, Places and Things tickets
- Olivier-winning actor Denise Gough will reprise her role in the West End run.
- The production snapped up six Drama Desk Awards, a WhatsOnStage Award, and a Critic's Circle Award before its run at the Wyndham's Theatre where it was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Play.
- A powerful piece of theatre that will really grab your attention.
A harrowing emotional rollercoaster
The plot presents the action from the addict’s point of view, the booze and drug-addicted actor Emma. We follow her as she breaks down on stage then checks into rehab, detoxes and goes into therapy, where she refuses to share her pain and rejects any form of role play or soul-baring. Will Emma’s experience with addiction and attempts at recovery break her - or make her?
The creative team is as strong as the storyline. Tony-winning Bunny Christie reprises her innovative set design, which draws you in to give the action an intimate edge. The on-stage seating brings the emotions closer to deliver a transfixing portrayal of the agonies of addiction.
Costume designer Christina Cunningham, lighting designer James Farncombe, composer Matthew Herbert, sound designer Tom Gibbons, video designer Andrzej Goulding, movement director Polly Bennett, and casting director Jessica Ronane complete the team, with original casting by Wendy Spon.
People, Places and Things offers a gripping portrayal of addiction and recovering, enabling audiences to experience a poignant exploration of human struggles. With an Olivier-award winning actor at its helm, this production promises an unforgettable West End experience for a limited time only.

A raw and honest portrayal of the journey in addictionAs someone who is 1 year sober I felt this play would appeal to me. I hadn't prepared myself for the sheer power of the performance. I laughed, cried and held my breath in places. Highly recommended.

Fast moving and unremittingly powerful....This play will speak to those with experience of addiction and those who love them. It pulls no punches nor offers any neatly sown up solutions. We are cleverly taken on board the mad merry-go-round of denial with the leading character and witness the trail of dashed hopes, broken relationships and decent into near insanity for both her and those who love her...a triumphant tour de force.

Great show, amazing acting, staging, sound etcPeople, places and things is a sensational play, beautifully acted and staged. Denise Gough is just amazing, I find it hard to comprehend that she is able to keep up the level of emotion and energy needed to perform this play night after night but that is of course what Denise does time after time? Thoroughly deserves The Olivier Award for Best Actress. Keep up the great work cast and crew, you are all amazing.

The National Theatre bring their latest hit to the West End
by Phil Willmott | Friday, March 4 2016, 13:14
If anyone tells you that the West End is dumbing down point them in the direction of the Wyndham’s Theatre which is about to play host to a revival of the National Theatre's production of PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS.
It’s not a musical, it’s a serious and entertaining new play and such is the appetite for quality drama in London’s theatreland that the run has had to be extended. It’s now booking until 18 June 2016.
