Orlando in London
Starring:
Emma Corrin
Orlando is a classic novel inspired by the life and times of the extraordinary Vita Sackville-West, who was Virginia Woolf's lover and friend. The results are playful, tantalizing, and unforgettable. MGC and Sand and Snow Entertainment are delighted to present Emma Corrin in Orlando, from the book by Virginia Woolf, adapted by Neil Bartlett and directed by Michael Grandage. Olivier nominee Corrin leads a company of eleven in a new staging described as ‘bold’. This is one of the most surprising stories you’ll ever experience. The show opens at the Garrick Theatre in November 2022 for a strictly limited season. Don’t miss out on Orlando theatre tickets!
What's the plot of Orlando?
Orlando tells a unique tale. The main character, Orlando himself-herself, was born as a man in the Elizabethan era but mysteriously changes sex at aged thirty. The plot takes its hero-heroine on an awe-inspiring journey through five hundred years. Along the way Orlando meets many important figures in England’s literary past, living until modern times without getting any older. Encountering all sorts of adventures in the search for answers to the most important question of all, does he-she discover how humans find the courage to be truly ourselves?
The novel has been adapted several times. 1989 saw the director Robert Wilson and writer Darryl Pinckney working on a single-actor production, premiering at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996 with Miranda Richardson in the title role. It has been performed in French, and there was a film by version released in 1992 starring Tilda Swinton as Orlando. An adaption by Sarah Ruhl premiered in New York City in 2010. The book has also been adapted into opera form.
Emma Corrin returns to the West End stage to play Orlando following an Olivier Award nominated performance in Anna X at the Harold Pinter, for which she was nominated for a Stage Debut Award for Best West End Performer. Her TV credits include Diana Spencer in the award-winning The Crown, and she stars in the movie Lady Chatterley's Lover as well as the limited series Retreat.
Who is Orlando for?
The sophisticated plot and themes of the production mean it won’t interest small children. Please use your judgement when buying Orlando tickets for younger people.

Marvelous productionWe thoroughly enjoyed the production. The acting was superb and, even though I had read "Orlando" previously, I found this production eye-opening as to some nuances of the book which I had missed. A great show.
