Noughts and Crosses the story

The scene is a deserted secluded beach where Callum and Sephy meet in secret. They're lifelong friends but they live on different sides of a divided world where the Noughts and Crosses never meet. When Callum, from a Nought family, is accepted as a pupil at Sephy’s posh Cross school, do they grow even closer, or does the fear and hate between the two types of people separate them?

About Noughts and Crosses

Noughts & Crosses is a series of young adult books by Malorie Blackman, consisting of six novels (Noughts and Crosses, Knife Edge, Checkmate, Double Cross, Crossfire, and Endgame) plus three novellas, all telling an alternative history of the UK in the 21st century. In this strange world where slavery has been banned, segregation between dark and light skinned people still separates the country. In 2020 it was turned into a British TV drama series. The soundtrack, Noughts + Crosses: The Soundtrack, was released on BBC Sounds in early 2020, and a second TV series was released in 2022.

Dominic Cooke has adapted this wide-ranging story set against the political backdrop of a deeply divided society, with Associate Artistic Director Tinuke Craig (A Raisin in the Sun) Directing, making her Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre debut. The Creative Team includes RC Annie the Fight Directors, Phillippe Cato Associate Director, Hazel Holder Voice Coach, Ingrid Mackinnon Movement and Intimacy Director and Max Pappenheim the Sound Designer. Joshua Pharo is the Lighting Designer and Colin Richmond is the Set and Costume Designer, with Jacob Sparrow as Casting Director and DJ Walde as the Composer.
