CINDERELLA as reimagined by Luke Barnes and the Not Too Tame theatre company is a raucous smash up of bawdy humour, nodding heavily to pantomime but then twisting, with the ending, the message to suit modern sensibilities.

The Norwegian Hamsun wrote 'Hunger' in 1890, before he won the Nobel Prize for literature (in 1920) and before he threw his weight behind the Nazi project in the 30's and, unrepentant to the last, wrote a eulogy for Hitler a week after the tyrant's death, claiming "He was a warrior, a warrior for mankind, and a prophet of the gospel of justice for all nations". Ouch...

An alternative ending to Shakespeare's tragedy is just the start for this brash, silly pop musical. Like many jukebox musicals, your enjoyment of shallow, bombastic and camp & Juliet depends on how willing you are to switch your brain off and go along with a paper-thin plot and shoehorned-in songs.
