Could Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein be coming to the West End?

Young Frankenstein Now a legend of musical theatre, Mel Brooks is the creator of world famous productions such as The Producers and Shinbone Alley, but now the comedian and writer is alleged to be remounting his musical version of the 1974 film Young Frankenstein, this time for a London audience.

Whispers on the theatrical grapevine are saying that Brooks is searching for a West End home for the reimagined production and has his sights set on some of the biggest venues that theatreland has to offer.

Susan Stroman, the original co-director and choreographer of the 2007 Broadway production of Young Frankenstein is said to be attached to the London version, Stroman and Brooks also worked together on The Producers.

Written by Tom Meehan and Mel Brooks, Young Frankenstein is a hilarious parody of Mary Shelley’s gothic horror story, combined with a send-up of the whole horror movie genre. The cult 1974 film stared Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn and Gene Wilder, a long-standing collaborator with Brooks.

Brooks has also mentioned that he will be making changes to the show to make it more suitable for a UK audience and has already penned a new number just for the West End, and if this wasn’t enough, he has stated that a number of front row tickets will be available to under 25’s for just £15!

Look out for more news on Young Frankenstein arriving in the West End very soon.
