1. Could you share how your passion for opera singing began and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

My passion for opera ignited the moment I stepped into my first lesson with my incredible first voice teacher Mrs. Mary Wynston-Smith. Mrs Smith didn’t just teach me how to sing; she introduced me to some of my favourite opera singers and completely transformed my understanding of storytelling. Her guidance opened my eyes to opera's emotional depth and expressive power, sparking a lifelong love for this extraordinary art form.

2. You've had the opportunity to perform at the Royal Opera House a few times. What do you enjoy most about returning to this iconic stage?

I enjoy the electrifying energy of the first stage and orchestra rehearsal. Something about all the elements of the production coming together takes things to another level.

3. You're about to perform in La Traviata. Could you give us an overview of what the opera is about?

Absolutely! In the opera, La Traviata, our leading lady, Violetta, is a glamorous party girl in Paris, who meets Alfredo and falls head over heels. They run away to live their best life together but then, Alfredo’s father, Giorgio shows up and convinces Violetta to dump Alfredo to protect the family’s reputation, so she does—even though it breaks her heart. In the end, they reunite, but it’s too late, and Violetta tragically dies in his arms. It’s all about love, heartbreak, and making impossible choices, with some gorgeous music.

4. Can you tell us more about the character you'll be portraying in La Traviata?

I will be singing the role of Annina in La Traviata. Officially Annina is the maid and confidante to Violetta Valéry but I think their relationship is deeper than that. I see her as a compassionate, resilient person who is fiercely loyal and would do anything for her friend Violetta.

5. What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of being an opera singer?

The most challenging aspect of being an opera singer is finding the balance between the physical demands of intense, sustained vocal performances and the emotional depth required to connect with the audience.

6. Is there a particular moment or scene in the show that you find especially meaningful or enjoyable?

One of my favourite dramatic and musical moments in this opera is from Act 2/Scene 1 between Alfredo’s father Giorgio Germont and Violetta where Germont has come to Violetta’s home to ask that she end things with Alfredo.

7. What can audiences look forward to in this production of La Traviata?

Audiences can look forward to coming to the opera to hear spectacular music, to see amazing costumes, and to leave the opera humming some of the opera's most iconic music.

8. Why do you think people should book tickets to see this performance?

I would say that people should come to see this opera because it’s like going to the Olympics. You are seeing Olympic-level dancers and musicians performing in some of opera's most challenging music. Plus, going to the opera offers a chance to unplug and engage with something real, tangible, and deeply moving.
