The original Japanese stage production of Studio Ghibli's Oscar-winning classic SPIRITED AWAY is coming to London next year.

The European premiere will open at the London Coliseum in April 2024 for a 12-week season.
Created by legendary animator and director Hayao Miyazaki, SPIRITED AWAY has been re-imagined for the stage by Toho Theatrical Department and Olivier and Tony Award-winning director John Caird (Les Misérables). This exciting new premiere has been adapted by John Caird and co-adapted by Maoko Imai.
The European premiere in London follows a sell-out tour of Japan in 2022. It will be presented in the original Japanese production with English captions.
The cast and creatives of SPIRITED AWAY
Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi, who performed in the Japanese production, will alternate the role of Chihiro.
Miyazaki's masterpiece will be brought beautifully to life with a live orchestra playing the magnificent original film score by Joe Hisaishi arranged by Brad Haak (Mary Poppins). As well as that there will be dazzling set design by Jon Bausor (Bat Out of Hell), puppets designed by Toby Olié (Pinocchio: National Theatre), choreography by Shigehiro Ide (NODA MAP Series), and lavish costumes by Sachiko Nakahara.
What is SPIRITED AWAY about?
A timeless masterpiece SPIRITED AWAY became a blockbuster after Hayao Miyazaki's 2001 release. It went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature film two years later in 2003.
It tells the enchanting tale of Chihiro who whilst traveling to a new home with her family, stumbles into a world of fantastic spirits ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba. This world turns humans into beasts, including her parents who become pigs. Chihiro must use her wits in order to survive in this strange new place, free her parents, and return back to the normal world.
