First out of the gate to produce live LGBT theatre, indeed fringe theatre, was the enterprising producer Peter Bull in association with plucky director, Stephen Dexter. They launched a venue in the pub garden of a gay bar with a revival of FANNY AND STELLA chronicling the adventures of real life Victorian cross dressers.
They've followed this up with a very small scale, critically acclaimed revival of the musical PIPPIN. You can find out more from http://pippinmusical.co.uk/.
Meanwhile at the Above The Stag Theatre, also originally founded by Peter Bull, a revival of the one man show BUYER & CELLAR starring EastEnders' Aaron Sidwell has been announced. Running from 14 October - 8 November with socially distanced bubble seating and face covering required.
Here's how venue are describing it:
An out of work actor is hired for a mysterious job at an undisclosed location – and finds himself working in Barbra Streisand’s legendary street of shops beneath her Malibu home, full of her memorabilia.
Soon he strikes up a rapport with Barbra herself. Is it real friendship, or something else?
A big hit in New York, London and Australia, Jonathan Tolins’ Buyer & Cellar is a hilarious, bitchy and exuberant fantasy about fame.
