Paul Mescal will star in two landmark productions at the National Theatre, making his debut there in 2027.
A Whistle in the Dark, a co-production with Dublin's Abbey Theatre, will transfer there following its initial run at the Lyttelton. He will also star in Death of a Salesman, which will see him reunite with award-winning director Rebecca Frecknall. The productions will form as part of Lyttelton's return to repertory for the first time since 2020.
First staged in 1961, Tom Murphy's A Whistle in the Dark explores an Irish immigrant family's struggles with identity, loyalty and survival in a hostile environment. Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman is a classic American play which first debuted on Broadway in February 1949. It follows Willy Loman, an aging travelling salesman who becomes disillusioned with the American Dream.
