The Mentalists, Richard Bean’s dark comedy is to open at the Wyndhams Theatre for a strictly limited run from 3 July to 26 September 2015.
This revival of Richard Bean’s 2002 play will star BAFTA Award-winning writer, actor and stand-up comedian Stephen Merchant, making his West End debut. Joining Merchant on stage will be Steffan Rhodri, the star of the BBC’s ever-popular comedy series Gavin & Stacey.
Directed by Abbey Wright, The Mentalists tells the hilarious tale of two friends, Morrie (Steffan Rhodri) and Ted (Stephen Merchant) who are forced to address the sinister nature of their relationship, whilst stuck in a Finsbury Park hotel room. This touching comedy brings bizarre dystopian visions and the power of friendship together, making for one hell of a theatrical ride!
Writer Richard Bean has had a string of West End hits with, One Man, Two Guvnors, Great Britain and Made In Dagenham.
Stephen Merchant is best known for his writing partnership with Ricky Gervais. Together the pair wrote and appeared in the BAFTA winning BBC television show The Office, and the star-studded comedy series Extras. Merchant has four British Comedy Awards, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award, and four BAFTA Awards to his name.
Steffan Rhodri is a West End veteran, having appeared in Alan Ayckborn’s Absent Friends and Laura Wade’s Posh, but became a household name back in 2007 when he played Dave Coaches in Gavin & Stacey. Rhodri is currently appearing in the new hit channel 4 comedy Cucumber.
The Mentalists opens at the Wyndhams Theatre on 3 July 2015 and runs until 26 September 2015. Tickets go on sale 27 February, and it is sure to be this summers must see production.
