London Theatre March 2025 Monthly Round Up

Now March has come to a close and Spring has finally arrived, we’re looking back at the biggest news, reviews, and audience favourites from the month of February.

There were lots of announcements in February which got theatregoers excited for the months ahead. Burlesque The Musical revealed it would be transferring to the West End and Titanique declared an extension to their run. This month did bring the news that Mean Girls however would be closing! We also had the chance to check out some incredible productions, including Retrograde at the Apollo Theatre and The Women of Llanrumney at Stratford East.

Burlesque The Musical announces West End premiere

The musical had previewed to sell-out audiences in its Manchester Opera House run last summer and there was a persistent hum of a West End premiere. The show, based on the 2010 movie which starred Christina Aguilera and Cher, will transfer to the Savoy Theatre this summer with performances beginning in July.

Catherine Tate to star in Sleeping Beauty at the London Palladium

We know we shouldn’t be discussing the C word already as we’re only just heading into Spring but there is already some buzz surrounding the London Palladium pantomime. This year the production will mark its 10th anniversary and Doctor Who star Catherine Tate will be involved playing the role of Wicked Fairy Caraboose.

Titanique announces West End extension to 2026

The Off-Broadway’s most award-winning hit, Titanique opened in the West End at the tailend of last year and audiences have been loving it! The production combines the music of Céline Dion with the eleven-time Oscar-winning blockbuster film Titanic and creates a hysterical musical fantasia that you won’t forget. Titanique has announced its extension of its run at the Criterion Theatre to January 2026.

Mean Girls Musical to close in the West End

Brought to the stage by Tina Fey, Mean Girls has revealed it will be leaving the West End this summer. The production, inspired by the 2004 Paramount Pictures film, offers audiences a hilarious and relatable portrayal of high school life. However, Mean Girls will embark on a UK tour in 2026 so that’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for! If you haven’t caught this production, you have until 8 June 2025.

Rachel Zegler to star in the West End production of Evita

The new production of Evita is one of the most eagerly anticipated shows of the summer, arriving at the London Palladium from June. Directed by Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Boulevard), Eva Perón will be played by Rachel Zegler, who will be making her West End debut. You can currently see her in the new Snow White Disney film and Zegler recently played the role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway.

What London shows are opening in April

April has lots of great new shows heading to the stage. Highlights include Mischief Theatre’s new show The Comedy About Spies and the West End transfer of Mark Rosenblatt’s Giant which opens at the Harold Pinter Theatre. That’s not all though because Ewan McGregor stars in a compelling new play, My Master Builder at the Wyndham’s Theatre from 17 April.

What London shows are closing in April

Sadly in April we will say goodbye to some brilliant productions. Some of the productions you need to see before they conclude include The Years, Mrs Doubtfire, Much Ado About Nothing and Punch. Duncan Macmillan's new and original iteration directed by Thomas Ostermeier, has pooled some headline talents who come together as a troupe of dysfunctional familiars for Chekhov’s classic. Performed as you’ve never before experienced, Cate Blanchett stars in this production at the Barbican until 5 April 2025.

Retrograde, Apollo Theatre

Ryan Calais Cameron’s historically based play in which he presents the moral dilemma faced by a young and talented actor named Sidney Poitier, Retrograde transferred to the West End this month following a smash-hit run at the Kiln Theatre. The production, beautifully directed by Amit Sharma, has earned itself a plethora of critical acclaim.

The Women of Llanrumney, Stratford East Theatre

Directly transferring from Cardiff Sherman Theatre, The Women of Llanrumney is a debut play by Azuka Oforka. Set in 18th Century colonial Jamaica, the play explores the experiences of women during slavery. It looks at a hidden chapter of British history and involves a great cast including Suzanne Packer, Nia Roberts, Shvorne Marks and Matthew Gravelle.
