The sell-out UK premiere of Broadway musical In The Heights has announced its return to the London stage, this time at the King’s Cross Theatre.
Writtten by Quiara Alegría Hudes and with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, In The Heights tells the exhilarating story of one of Manhattan’s most vibrant communities, Washington Heights. With a catchy Latin and hip-hop infused score, In The Heights is a new musical about what it takes to make a living, what it costs to have a dream and what it means to be home. This acclaimed production will run at the Kings Cross Theatre from 3 October to 1 November 2015.
In The Heights will run in rep with the King’s Cross Theatre’s long-running production of The Railway Children. There will also be a late night bar opening an hour before the show and playing live music until late into the night.
Directed by Luke Sheppard and featuring choreography by Drew McOnie and set design by takis, In the Heights won the Tony Award for Best New Musical in 2008, it was also nominated for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Director Luke Sheppard said in a statement, ‘We were overwhelmed by the response at Southwark and it's a real privilege to be able to revisit this extraordinary musical. We've thought long and hard about the right way to bring the show back to London whilst keeping the experience up close and personal, and this is a brilliant space for us to take over and immerse our audience in the sounds and sweat of this passion-infused piece’.
Casting for In The Heights is yet to be announced, so look out for more news on this exciting production coming soon…
