The world premiere of Hangmen, Martin McDonagh’s new play is currently playing to sell-out houses at London’s Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square, and now the critically acclaimed production will transfer to the West End in December 2015.
Due to open at Wyndham’s Theatre on 1 December 2015, McDonagh’s darkly funny and mysterious play will run through to 5 March 2016.
Six years in the making, Hangmen tells the story of Harry, the second-best hangmen in England. Set in 1964 in a small Oldham pub on the eve of the abolition of hanging. Harry must decide what to do with his life, now his skills are no longer needed.
The current cast includes Josef Davies, James Dryden, Johnny Flynn, Graeme Hawley, John Hodgkinson, Ralph Ineson, Bronwyn James, David Morrissey, Ryan Pope, Sally Rogers, Simon Rouse and Reece Shearsmith.
David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn will reprise their roles in the West End transfer; however, Reece Shearsmith will not follow the production into Theatreland, due to prior filming commitments.
Directed by Matthew Dunster and designed by Anna Fleischle, with sound design by Ian Dickinson and lighting design by Joshua Carr, Hangmen has received five-star reviews across the board and huge public acclaim since opening at the Royal Court on 10 September 2015.
Further casting is yet to be announced, but tickets have already gone on sale for the West End transfer at Wyndham’s Theatre, and judging by the phenomenal demand seen at the Royal Court, book quickly!
