Hand to God
The genius of Robert Askin's hilarious play about a troubled young Christian who's hand puppet becomes possessed by Satan is that he takes it all to unthinkable extremes whilst remaining true to a logical progression of events. It’s somehow so persuasive a journey that you can believe in the spiralling of mayhem right through to the blood dripping, shocking conclusion.
It has the audience in uncontrollable laughter at one moment then gasping in horror and disbelief the next. The show also contains the longest, most explicit simulated sex scene I've ever seen. Even if it is sex between socks!
It's a small cast and set. I guess we'll get it at the Menier in a year or so. I hope they import it with the lead though. His puppetry skills are amazing.
