Review: THE BODYGUARD at The Dominion Theatre
By Stacey Tyler Tuesday, August 9 2016, 08:36
Having loved the original production back in 2013, I jumped at the chance to see The Bodyguard as it returned to London’s glittering West End. Even if you have seen the film, this is one story that never fails to tug at your heart-strings. Not like your usual musical, this story holds as much weight as the musical element, and that is why it is such a hit with avid theatre-goers and juke box musical fans alike.
Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre
By Stacey Tyler Tuesday, July 26 2016, 12:00
Set in the picturesque surroundings of Regent's Park, the open-air theatre is a spectacle in itself, and even as you take your seat it is clear that this version of Jesus Christ Superstar is going to be very different from the arena version a few years back. Based on the most famous stories from the Bible: the week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, this Jesus Christ Superstar has been catapulted into the 21st century. From the stark concrete set to the Kanye West-esque costume, visually it would not have been out of place on the streets of London in 2016.
Review: THE DONKEY SHOW at Proud Camden
By Stacey Tyler Tuesday, June 21 2016, 08:47
As soon as you arrive at Proud Camden, it’s clear that you are not in for the average night at the theatre. The Donkey Show is a fabulous, exhilarating and flamboyant musical based on one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays: A Midsummer Nights Dream.
Far from the forest that usually occupies this story, we find ourselves throwninto a hedonistic night at Club Oberon where the events unfold over the course of an evening. From classics such as: Car Wash, I Will Survive and We are Family, this 70s disco is the hottest ticket in town.
Review: ZIK’R at The Peacock Theatre
By Stacey Tyler Friday, June 17 2016, 10:20
Blending the dance style of flamenco with the beautiful sounds of Sufi music, ZIK’R is a reworking of a piece that has had a previous life at many venues across the UK.
Initially the show is exciting, opening with a bang and we are instantly transported into the world of flamenco. The stark stage is filled with bright yellows depicting the sunrise and the beginning of the journey as flamenco made its way from India through many different places until it settled in Southern Spain.
