Richard K. Franklin is an English actor, writer, director and political activist. Principally a stage performer who works at every level of British Theatre from The West End to the London fringe, he has also appeared as regular characters in several high-profile British television programmes, including Crossroads, Emmerdale Farm, and most notably in the early years of BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who, in which he portrayed Captain Mike Yates. He is also a prolific dramatist and author and has stood as an independent candidate for Parliament several times.

Audiences at recent Globe productions have enjoyed or had to endure several egocentric productions which have been more about the director's agenda rather than the playwright's so it's great to have the refreshingly steady hand of veteran director Nancy Meckler in the driving seat for Shakespeare's masterpiece, King Lear.
