Review: THE NUTCRACKER - English National Ballet at the Coliseum

The Nutcracker - English National Opera As it begins to get colder and darker this December, English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is a refreshing reminder of festivity and warmth. However, despite some fantastic performances, the production felt slightly muddled.

Designer Pete Farmer ensures we open with some truly picturesque moments, as revellers glide on ice and open larger-than-life presents. The Christmas images in the first half are truly picture perfect, with the falling of snowflakes and glistening Christmas trees.

Review: THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith

Things I Know to be True State Theatre Company and Frantic Assembly’s offering of Bovell’s THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE taps into our undying fascination with familial relationships, and the way in which they tackle it, taps into our hearts.

The story revolves around the Price family, whose naive youngest child Rosie (Kirsty Oswald) has just returned from her gap year around Europe. The family begins to unravel around her, and a tragic incident punctuates the day her ‘childhood ended.’

Impossible After last year’s commercial success IMPOSSIBLE returns to the Noël Coward Theatre, where a gang of illusionists and escapologists utilise their unquestionable skill to amaze and ultimately baffle their audience.

A journey through the history of magic,” IMPOSSIBLE treats to a variety of acts, from Chris Cox’s enigmatic mind-reading abilities to daredevil Jonathan Goodwin’s upside-down escape from a strait jacket, in a blaze of fire, which kept me perched on the edge of my seat.
