Wicked, the spellbinding musical that tells the story of the witches of Oz, has most recently glided into its 12th year smash hit at the Apollo Victoria, London. It has now surpassed Billy Elliot as one of the longest running musicals, becoming the 16th longest running show in London’s history.

After her third tour in Afghanistan, where an explosion has left her with severe burns and scars across her body, Jess (Kate Fleetwood) has returned home to Florida. Home is somewhat different than she remembered; and in order to cope with her PTSD and delusions of combat, she undertakes a new kind of therapy. This therapy is virtual reality, where she is able to create her own idea of ‘paradise.’

Theatre N16 has us dreaming of a bleak festive season by presenting Simon Stephens’ unrelenting Christmas. Set in a pub, four men discuss the tragedies of their lives, and find solace and conflict in each other. Despite the fact Stephens’ writing is always inherently good, one must question the relevance of this play at this time, and its lack of a clear message.
