Review: An American in Paris
By Daniel Perks Thursday, March 16 2017, 10:16
One of Wheeldon’s finest moments that captures the romantic essence of its Parisian roots and brings it into the present day. Experience a cast and creative team working its peak in a fitting homage to an iconic style.
Think of American Jazz and the roaring twenties and you automatically think of the Gershwin brothers. George and Ira are synonymous with the style – Rhapsody in Blue; virtuoso piano jazz standards; lilting, dreamy trumpet melodies; plush orchestration. All the aspects of a timeless classic composition can be found in An American In Paris – fitting, since it is itself one of the true great films of its era, a bastion of historical Hollywood in all its intoxicating glamour.
Review: GLITTER PUNCH, Kings Head Theatre
By Daniel Perks Monday, February 13 2017, 10:00
A no frills analysis of an atypical love story, Glitter Punch is a cleverly understated production that is most impactful in the things it doesn’t say. Leave the outcome a cliffhanger to increase the sense of intrigue.
Review: HALF A SIXPENCE at the Noel Coward Theatre
By Daniel Perks Monday, November 14 2016, 10:33
There is no questioning the talent of both the cast and creative team here – everyone is competent and able to execute their roles well. But therein is the problem; the show isn’t memorable or extraordinary enough to merit a second viewing.

The 39th Lawrence Olivier Awards took place on Sunday 12th April at the Royal Opera House and as ever there were some expected wins for the year’s most popular productions but also some surprises as well deserved dark horses crept up unawares.
Review of Beautiful The Musical
By Daniel Perks Thursday, March 12 2015, 10:47
One of the better jukebox musicals I have seen on the West End, a slightly stronger supporting cast and meatier storyline would be the icing on the cake here.
I have to admit, before this musical I belonged to one of the uncultured masses. Yes, I had heard of Carole King and I knew she was a famous songwriter, but I couldn’t have named any of her songs. I always associated her with the music of the generation above me, one of the names of the past that I knew was well respected but didn’t really know why.
