Much Ado About Nothing in London
Starring:
Hayley Atwell, Tom Hiddleston
Are you ready for mischief, games and pranks? Shakespeare’s brilliant battle of the sexes is back, this time with Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell in leading roles. Jamie Lloyd directs this landmark production, in town for a limited 8-week run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from February 2025.
Much Ado About Nothing - The Story
The plot of the Bard’s fast-paced rom-com goes like this. The idyllic Italian town of Messina is enjoying peace at last after a terrible war. Everything’s looking rosy. The young lovers Claudio and Hero and their friends, the argumentative singles Beatrice and Benedick, quickly become entangled a series of pranks, wind-ups and plots. The result is, as always, savagely funny but also tender, an entertaining battle of wits that has kept audiences coming back for more than 500 years.
Much Ado About Nothing Cast and Creatives
Tom Hiddleston returns to the stage after his acclaimed performances in Betrayal on Broadway and the West End. A Golden Globe, Tony, Olivier, and Evening Standard Award winner, Hiddleston is widely known for his role as Loki in the Marvel movies, as well as his work in War Horse, Kong: Skull Island, The Hollow Crown, and The Deep Blue Sea. On stage, his roles in Betrayal, Hamlet, Coriolanus, Othello, and Cymbeline have earned him multiple accolades, including an Olivier Award for Best Newcomer.
Hayley Atwell began her career on the BBC with The Line of Beauty in 2006, followed by a film role in How About You. She gained fame as British agent Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), leading to roles in Agent Carter, Cinderella (2015), and the Black Mirror episode "Be Right Back." Atwell made her West End debut in 2009 with A View from the Bridge, earning an Olivier nomination, and has since appeared in productions like The Faith Machine, The Pride, Dry Powder, Measure for Measure, and Rosmersholm.
Expect loads of wit and banter, false confessions and confusions, gossip, rumour, overheard conversations, secrets and trickery, comedy, intrigue and action early next year in the West End.

Modern, creative, a must see!My favourite Shakespeare play brought to live in a completely new, creative and playful way. Lots of unexpected dancing, great use of an unusual, minimalistic set. Great casting. And Tom Hiddleston - what a superb actor, what a star! Absolutely loved the show. Best live performance of Much Ado I have ever seen. A must see! Was a little disappointed that one of my favourite roles (Dogberry) had been cut away (together with a number of others), but some of the comedic relief was taken up by the unusual choice of Don John. It is understandable that Shakespeare's large cast was trimmed down and the show did not suffer for it, it tightened the play up and left time for song and dance numbers, which were unexpected, but fit the modern setting and the mood of the scenes. Some of the strobe lighting elements were a bit too much for me.

Most imaginative relevant and fun Shakespeare I have ever seen!My teenage daughters and I laughed in delight and loved the amazing set Design and costumes that brought the story so much fun and meaning. Hayley Atwell was a revelation bringing meaning to Shakespeares lines which can be tricky for the average punter. All the cast were superb and gave an infectious sense of fun which you just wanted to join in on! The charismatic Margaret singing amazing arrangements of dance music was just irresistable. Would love to see another Shakespeare by the same director now.
