Merrily We Roll Along - The story

You’ll need to keep your wits about you as this wonderful musical darts back and forth across time and space, each new era marked by a lovely show tune. The show tracks the life of the main character, an ex-musical song writer and now famous Hollywood musical producer, and his friends Charley and Mary. And that’s all we’re going to say about the plot, in case we spoil it for you!

Suffice to say the show has won numerous top awards over the years, on and off Broadway and in the West End. In 1982 it won a Tony for Best Original Score, two Drama Desk awards for outstanding music and outstanding lyrics and a Theatre World Award. It won an outstanding four Olivier awards in 2001 including Best New Musical. And more recently the 2012 London production was given a prestigious Critics’ Circle Peter Hepple Award for Best Musical. So it comes with immaculate credentials.

The songs in the show include Not a Day Goes By, Good Thing Going, Old Friends and Our Time. All classics in their own right, they’ve been covered by some of the music industry’s finest luminaries including Sinatra, Petula Clark, Cleo Laine, Liza Minnelli, Barry Manilow, Michael Crawford and Lena Horne. And they’re still hard and fast staples to this day, adored by cabaret artists worldwide.
