Directed by Stephen Daldry, this astonishing new play by the ex-Young Vic Artistic Director David Lan weaves the story of displaced and stolen children following WWII, with Juliet Stevenson (The Doctor) in a starring role.
Land of the Living the story
The playwright David Lan CBE was born in South Africa. As well as writing plays he works as a theatre producer and social anthropologist. He trained as an actor and has lived in London since 1972, the writer in residence at the Royal Court Theatre from 1995 to 1997 as well as the artistic director of the Young Vic theatre from 2000 to 2018. He has produced over 200 shows so far.
About Land of the Living
Stephen Daldry CBE directs the drama. He’s an English director and producer of film, theatre, and television who has won three Tony Awards for his work on Broadway plus an Olivier Award for his work in the West End. He was given three Academy Award nominations for Best Director for the movies Billy Elliot, The Hours, and The Reader.
Daldry is also responsible for producing and directing Netflix’s The Crown, which won him a Producers Guild Award nomination and win, two Primetime Emmy nominations, and Primetime Emmy wins for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series / Outstanding Drama Series. His many theatre credits include An Inspector Calls, Machinal, Billy Elliot: The Musical, Skylight and Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
Land of the Living cast
The cast includes Juliet Stevenson. Well known on TV and in the movies, her stage work includes many roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre, with Olivier nominated roles for her work on Measure for Measure, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and Yerm. Juliet won 1992’s Olivier for Best Actress for her work on Death and the Maiden, and her 5th Olivier nomination was received for Duet for One.
