Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain Part 3 in London

Barmy Britain Part 3 – Laugh out loud silliness

The Guardian's reviewer is still giggling. “My son and his hard-to-impress sister have been laughing more or less constantly since the show began. It also successfully revisits British history from a feminist perspective, giving equal attention to women. For that alone, it wins my vote”. And the Evening Standard adored it, with its “Blood, guts and gross gags”. This frenetic 60 minute romp through several centuries of British barminess will change the way you feel about history forever.

The Scotsman's reviewer admired the show so much they reckon “Foster and Fitzjohn should be in every school history class across the land. Or, given how little most of us know about history, maybe that should be every living room.” And Metro called it, “A breathlessly orchestrated hour of 'edutainment' packaged as madcap tomfoolery and rumbustious songs, not least for parents who will probably wish learning could have been this much fun for them.

This wonderfully daft show features some of the most hilarious and disgusting sound effects ever to make contact with a child’s ears. But it's also educational. No child – or adult for that matter – will ever forget the show's hysterical historical histrionics.

Being a home-grown comedy it's stuffed with word play and puns so bad/good they'll make you groan out loud with pleasure and pain in equal measure. It's a show where hard-hitting historic facts meet hilarity head on, presented by terrific actors and brought to even more vivid life via a series of creative songs and raps.

Camden New Journal says it's “Deliciously horrible, wonderfully produced, hilariously acted – an energy-packed hour of learning by osmosis.” The West End frame advises audience members to “Forget your age and act your shoe size.” And Families Magazine joins the praise, calling it, ”A definite must-see show.

Barmy Britain Part 3 - The story

800 years ago King John signed the Magna Carta. In later years our country was taken over by the Puritans, who get a well deserved comedy pasting. The Great Fire of London, crazy King Charles, Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington all fall foul of the funnies. The famously uptight Victorians take it on the chin and there's even a sketch about the First World War. Non-stop hilarity awaits you!

Educational and Fun!

Excellent. I would recommend to everyone. Just one small criticism, when hitting the bear near the beginning of show, maybe not the best example to children. Apart from this an amazing, educational show.

Fantastic kids show and wonderful way to think about history!

The show is wonderful and I'd highly recommend it to anyone with kids 5-12. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned something, too! I would have loved another song or two... and I think there might have been something a bit more interesting/entertaining to say about the Duke of Wellington, but these are nitpicks in an otherwise fantastic day out. I would go to another Horrible HIstories show in a heartbeat and will be recommending it to my son's school!
