Here We Are in London
The book is by David Ives, the music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and the show is inspired by the films of Luis Buñuel. Expect fabulous and you won’t be disappointed. This is what the New York Times critic called ‘Joe Mantello’s breathtakingly chic production’, on at the National Theatre for spring 2025.
Here We Are - The Story
Today is the ideal day for brunch, and Leo and Marianne know the perfect spot to take their friends. The reviews are excellent, the service is impeccable and the menu is a delight. What could possibly go wrong? When weird events keep interrupting the fun, they soon realise things are not as they seem. Have they bitten off more than they can chew?
About Here We Are
This is the final work by Stephen Sondheim (Into the Woods, West Side Story, Gypsy, Into The Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, Follies and many more). The musical was completed shortly before his death in 2021 and premiered at The Shed's Griffin Theatre in America on 22 October 2023 where it ran until January 2024.
Here We Are Cast & Creatives
This time around the musical is directed by two-time Tony Award winning Joe Mantello (WICKED, Assassins). Tony Award-nominee and book writer David Ives also gave us All in the Timing and Venus in Fur. The cast includes Tony and Olivier award-nominated Tracie Bennet (Coronation Street, the film version of Shirley Valentine, She Loves Me to name a few), Olivier award winner Rory Kinnear (The Man Of Mode, Othello, four James Bond movies and more) and Dennis O’Hare (Take Me Out, Sweet Charity, TV’s True Blood and more).
The rest of the creative team includes Set and Costume Design by David Zinn, Choreography from Sam Pinkleton, and Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. Additional Arrangements come from Alexander Gemignani. Your Conductor is Nigel Lilley. The Lighting Designer is Natasha Katz, the Sound Designer is Tom Gibbons, and the Casting Director is Bryony Jarvis-Taylor.
This is a Tom Kirdahy, Sue Wagner, John Johnson and The Stephen Sondheim Trust production, co-produced with The National Theatre.
