Festen in London
Premiering at the Royal Opera House in February 2025 is a bold new opera based on Thomas Vinterberg's 1998 Danish black comedy drama film. Wiith music by Mark-Anthony Turnage and directed by Richard Jones, Festen plays for a limited season in February 2025.
Festen - The Story
Based on a popular Danish film, Festen centres on the story of a wealthy family's dark secrets unravelling during a patriarch's 60th birthday celebration. As the guests gather, the eldest son makes shocking accusations of abuse against his father, leading to intense confrontations that expose the family's hidden traumas. A cornerstone of the Dogme 95 movement, a cornerstone of the Dogme 95 movement, is known for its raw, minimalist style and exploration of themes like power, denial, and family dysfunction, Festen explores themes like power, denial, and family dysfunction.

Director Richard Jones will be joined by set designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Nicky Gillibrand, lighting designer Lucy Carter and movement director Lucy Barge.
