Elektra in London
Starring:
Brie Larson
Do you love a powerful plot with potent themes, played out by equally powerful acting talent? You'll find this new adaptation of the legendary Sophocles play Elektra a real thrill, coming to the capital for a strictly limited, completely unmissable run.
Elektra - The story
This epic tragedy is set in the city of Argos a few years after the Trojan War, where a bitter struggle for justice takes place after Elektra and Orestes' father Agamemnon is brutally murdered by Clytemnestra and their stepfather Aegisthus. Expect particularly brilliant scenes where Elektra's heroic resolution and sheer determination fall under constant attack.
About Elektra
This is the first major revival in over a decade of the playwright's still-electrifying play. It might be almost 2500 years old but this compelling Ancient Greek tragedy, written by Sophocles some time between the years 420 and 414 BC, hasn't lost any of its appeal. The Ancient Roman writer Cicero said it was a masterpiece, and so it remains.
Elektra has been adapted several times including a 1949 play by Ezra Pound and Rudd Fleming, a 1995 opera by Mikis Theodorakis, and a 2010 Malayalam language psychological drama movie co-written and directed by the Indian film maker and actor Shyamaprasad.
Elektra cast and creatives
Starring Brie Larson (Room, Lessons in Chemistry, Captain Marvel), and directed by Daniel Fish (Oklahoma), it has been translated by the award-winning poet Anne Carson.
The internationally renowned Stockard Channing (The West Wing, The Good Wife) joins Marième Diouf (Romeo and Juliet at The Globe Theatre), Greg Hicks (Grapes of Wrath at The National Theatre, Coriolanus) and Patrick Vaill (Stranger Things: The First Shadow), who won an Evening Standard Award for his role in Oklahoma!
Experience this electrifying new production of Elektra, Brie Larson's performance will leave you breathless! It heads to the West End for a limited run.

Trusted Matt Tebbit's review of this show and was proved wrong!!This show was obviously not our usual theatre outing but based on reviews (mainly on Saturday Kitchen), we decided to have an adventure. Turned out it wasn't really our thing, but it seemed that the rest of the audience also didn't rate it and reading the reviews afterwards by those more in the know, apparently it's not really that great.... Husband was glad there was no interval as he would not have managed another half!! Hey ho, you live and learn and Brie Larson is obviously a very good actress - glad we therefore saw an Oscar winning actress :)
