Edward Scissorhands in London
Matthew Bourne’s magical dance production of Edward Scissorhands has carved a place in the hearts of audiences world-wide since its premiere in 2005.
Based on the classic Tim Burton movie and featuring the hauntingly beautiful music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, Bourne and his New Adventures Company return to this witty, bittersweet story of an incomplete boy left alone in a strange new world.
In a castle high on a hill lives Edward; a boy created by an eccentric inventor. When his creator dies he is left alone and unfinished with only scissors for hands until a kindly townswoman invites him to live with her suburban family. Can Edward find his place in the well-meaning community which struggles to see past his curious appearance to the innocence and gentleness within?
Presented by New Adventures, Martin McCallum and Marc Platt Devised, directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne New music and arrangements by Terry Davies Based on themes from the original motion picture score composed by Danny Elfman Based on the original motion picture by arrangement with 20th Century Studios Original story and motion picture directed by Tim Burton Original screenplay, story and co-adaptation by Caroline Thompson Designed by Lez Brotherston Lighting designed by Howard Harrison Sound designed by Paul Groothuis By Special Arrangement with Buena Vista Theatricals

Disappointed that there was not much ballet. Only a couple of scenes with main characters performing ballet.

Beautiful choreographyObviously there are is no dialogue, but it's still a simple & heartwarming story to follow. The orchestra is beautifully presented. If you like the film, then definitely give this a go. There are several amendments, but none that I'd count as negative.

Exceptional!Myself and my family love the story of Edwards Scissorhands and so I HAD to come and see the show. I didn't look much into the show before attending, so had no idea what to expect. The story was slightly different from the film from the start, but this did not spoil the show at all, the spirit of Edward was strong and was shown throughout the show. The portrayal of the story was not what I expected, but I am so glad it was performed in the way it was. It really helped the whole fairytale of Edward become an experience to share rather than to simply be retold. The music was beautiful, the costumes and set stunning and helped to tell the story perfectly. As for the acting/dancing/cats.... their performances were outstanding! The cast exuded the emotions which ran throughout the show, I found myself totally swept up in all that was going on, so much so, I was so moved at the end, I had to sit down from my standing ovation I wished to give! I left the theatre feeling elated, I had a real buzz from the whole experience of Edward Scissorhands. I cannot thank the cast, the technical crew and all the people who worked so hard and brilliantly to put on an awesome show. The great news for me is that I will be seeing it again with my sister! I can't wait to enjoy Edward Scissorhands again... well done to all involved and thank you for a fabulous evening out.

first time luckyOverall I've seen the film and never ever been to a ballet before so I took it upon myself to see for a birthday treat. Of course it will never be the same as Tim Burton's original but the music didn't disappoint. The acting and dancing was great. There were just some moments in the story that were pointless but glad the director did over exaggerate it. Would recommend everyone to see this.
