Diana in London
Starring:
Kerry Ellis
A new concert version of Broadway show Diana The Musical is coming to the Eventim Apollo in London for one night only in December. The new musical is billed as a "dazzling and devastating" look at the life of Princess Diana, in an original musical by writers by David Bryan and Joe DiPetro (Memphis).
Mother. Daughter. Sister. Wife. Philanthropist. Icon. Princess.
The 2021 Broadway production was severely disrupted by Covid, and was a critical and commercial flop, running for only 49 performances. The show was also filmed for a Netflix release.
This radical new version of Diana: The Musical, directed by Owen Horsley, hands the microphone to Diana as she reflects on her past. In a theatrical twist, this is a tale in two parts, narrated by Diana (Kerry Ellis) as she looks back on herself as the 19 year old Diana (Maiya Quansah-Breed) that captured the nation. Denise Welch guest -stars as The Queen.
On this stage she is in control of her narrative and her story is brought to life with humour and satire and in turn reveals a woman who, having just signed her divorce papers, sees a future filled with opportunity.

Diana The MusicalWe were slightly disappointed with the show. The acoustics weren’t great, so we couldn’t really hear everything the performers were saying. The costumes were okay, but nothing special. The music was good as was some of the singing and dancing. Overall, we did like some of the songs, although felt that some improvement was needed with the production of the story.

Terrible!Nothing really worth watching, I sat through the first half which was a satirical take on Diana’s story while using Camilla to create some interesting efforts at humour. Certainly didn’t find amusing, although the delivery wasn’t very clear. Some very powerful singing took place but sadly nothing I’d heard before so I left disappointed.

DisappointingThis production was a disappointment, the music was far too loud so you couldn’t hear what was being said. No costumes, no change of scenery. Why was there 2 Diana’s? It did not represent value for money. The worst show we have ever been to, if that what it was. What was the smoke all about. You could not hear what they were singing. Very late in starting and only half hour for the second half!! It was a nice theatre BUT we would like to know if this production was put on by a bunch of Students it certainly looked like it. So all in all, a complete waste of good money which I’m sorry to say it was a Christmas present for my dear old friend who struggled to understand what was going on. Ten people behind left at half time and didn’t come back, we should have joined them. A sad day all round.
