Dear Lupin in London
Starring:
James Fox, Jack Fox
Father and son acting team James and Jack Fox star in this heart-warming funny play at the Apollo Theatre, a brand new stage adaptation of the Times newspaper's Humour Book of the Year. Dear Lupin, Letters to a Wayward Son sees the journalist, author and old Etonian Roger Mortimer’s humorous and touching letters to his son Charlie brought to vibrant life.
The production explores Charlie’s loving, quirky relationship with his dad in a uniquely charming way, making for an exceptoinal West End premier. It's directed by Philip Franks and plays from 30th July to 19th September following a critically acclaimed UK tour.
James Fox, who plays Roger Mortimer, is a BAFTA-winning actor best known for movies and TV, including Britain's favourite period drama Downton Abbey and the classic family film Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines. His stage productions include The Happiest Millionaire, Henry V and All In Love.
Jack Fox, star of the Riverside Studios' The Portrait Of Dorian Gray and a growing number of screen appearances, plays Charlie, AKA Lupin, to hilarious perfection.
Roger Mortimer’s book was published in 2012 to rave reviews. And by all accounts the Foxes are revelling in the experience, as are the Mortimers themselves. As the real life Charlie Mortimer says:
“To have Fox father and son playing Mortimer father and son is a coup beyond my wildest dreams; and to say I am excited and delighted to see the production transfer into the West End would be the ultimate understatement.”
Jack Fox is equally chuffed, commenting:
“It's brilliant to see Dad return to the stage, and for me, not just as his son, but as an actor it's a huge privilege to learn from him. People assume as an actor you start as a fully finished article, but that couldn't be further from the truth - it's an honour to work with him. I hope the rapport we share in life will translate to the stage."
Dear Lupin – The story
When Charlie leaves home he and his dad Roger begin a quirky, affectionate and witty twenty five year correspondence, exchanging news, views and issues by letter. The result is a superbly funny, wry and touching piece delving into their lives, preoccupations and experiences. According to the king of wryness, Jeremy Paxman, it's, "Brilliantly written, they could offer a money back guarantee if you don't laugh". A rare comedy treat and a theatrical comedy classic in the making, you'll remember this one for a long time to come.

fantastic! Such acceptance of a father despite all behaviorthis is a show about a father son relationship. Any father would have severed all ties, and yet despite his son's behavior, he was loving and supporting. This is a must see show to anyone who has kids and any child who don't get what they put their parents through.

It'll make you laugh, and even shed a tiny tearMy friend and I went to watch Dear Lupin last night, and found it to be a wonderfully humourous play anout the relationsip between father and son, beautifully played out by father and som James and Jack Fox. The fact that they are father and som in real life, only added to the poignancy of the play, and the tender moments between the two at the end of the play.
