A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story in London

A Christmas Carol – Done the Mark Gattiss way

A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story will be on stage at the Alexandra Palace Theatre from 24th November 2023 to 7th January 2024. This is your chance to see the marvellous Mark Gatiss’ retelling of Charles Dickens’ beloved winter ghost story, and it’s just as spooky as ever.

A Christmas Carol tickets – Back for 2023

Following a successful initial season back in 2021, Mark Gatiss’ version of Dickens’ ghost story returns to the West End. It’s on at the Alexandra Palace theatre, the ideal venue for such a scary festive treat, and the stage sets’ innovative special effects showcase the scariness perfectly. Welcome to the supernatural world of Dickens – and to Scrooge, the most famous Victorian festive season anti-hero of all.

See Keith Allen in A Christmas Carol

Keith Allen is the darling of many a TV series as well as popular on stage. In the 1970s he was sacked from his stagehand job for turning up naked in Max Bygrave’s chorus line. Later he opened punk concerts as a stand-up comedian and vocalist. Now he’s basically a national treasure, with recent small screen successes including a role as the serial killer and rapist John Cooper in ITV’s 3-part drama The Pembroke Murders, and as Dai Williams in the BBC crime series Steeltown Murders.

All about A Christmas Carol – Classic entertainment

The story dates back to 1843 but it never grows old thanks to ageless themes of generosity versus greed, happiness versus sorrow, poverty versus riches. Published on 19th December 1843, the first edition of the book had sold out by Christmas Eve. A year later it was in its 13th edition. While this ever-popular story is a tale of morals, and stern stuff, it’s also one with a happy ending.

When Ebenezer Scrooge is whisked away on a terrifying and transformational journey by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, he finally understands he has to change his mealy-mouthed, miserable ways. If he doesn’t, he’s in for eternal misery just like his mean-spirited old friend Jacob Marley.

The full A Christmas Carol cast

Joining Allen on stage are Peter Forbes as Marley, Leona Allen as Caroline, James Backway as Fred, Angelina Chudi as Belle, Edward Harrison as Bob Cratchit, Bettrys Jones as Ghost of Christmas Past, Joe Shire as Fezziwig/Ghost of Christmas Present, Rebecca Trehearn as Mrs Cratchit, and Ryan Weston as Tiny Tim. Geoffrey Beevers is the Narrator. Edwin Cratchit is played by Joshua Beswick, Oliver Dawson, and Alex Gross. Grace Cratchit is played by Esme Gupta-Wright, Anaya-Sky Lueshing, and Cherry Mitra.

Impressive

I'm an italian Christmas Carol fan, I have read the book and watched the film many times and this show was absolutely excellent to me. I guess it was not easy at all to set up some scenes, still everything has been impressive and creative and really in line with the original story. Well done, highly recommended :)
