Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book is a gorgeous musical adaptation of the best-selling children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. After a smash-hit UK tour, it’s due in the West End for a limited festive season. A lovely treat for little kids aged five to eight and great fun for grown-ups as well.

Created by the award-winning Little Angel Theatre, the show arrives in town hot on the heels of another of the author-illustrator team’s hits, The Smartest Giant in Town. Add a sprinkle of magic from the adaptors Barb Jungr and Samantha Lane and it’s the perfect festive treat.

Charlie loves reading but his sister thinks it’s BORING to sit with your face in a book. Can Charlie change her mind? Maybe if he reads her a book about a pirate, who is reading a book about Goldilocks, who is reading a book about a knight, she’ll be convinced.

Prepare to be whisked away on a journey through eleven different books inside one book, starring thrilling characters like pirates, dragons, ghosts, and space aliens. The fun is turned up to eleven thanks to awesome puppetry, cool songs and stunning staging.

About Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book

In 1993 the words of one of Julia Donaldson’s television songs, A Squash and a Squeeze, were made into a book illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It was a creative partnership designed to last and they’re still working together. The story’s creators have an uncanny knack for exactly what inspires children to laugh and learn, and they’ve come up with an enormous number of books and plays including The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, and Princess Mirror-Belle.

The fun is performed by Georgie Samuels, Pierre Hanson-Johnson and Jazmine Wilkinson, directed by Samantha Lane and composed by Barb Jungr, and the set and costume is by Ellie Mills. The puppets are by Maia Kirkman-Richards and lighting by Sherry Coenen. Stage managed by Olivia Preston, this is a Little Angel Theatre, Lowry and Rose Theatre co-production.
