Carmen in London

Carmen is the best-loved opera by the brilliant French composer Georges Bizet, known by people who don’t even know they know it! The opera’s fascinating blend of passion, sensuality and violence returns to the Royal Opera House, directed by Damiano Michieletto.

Carmen - The Story

Carmen tickets take you to a thrilling world where a handsome young soldier, Don José, wants to marry the lovely Micaëla from his home village. But when the sensual, fiercely independent Carmen turns up he forgets about his old love, leaving everything behind to be with her. When contrary Carmen gets bored of Don José and falls in love with Escamillo, Don Jose flies into a fury, finds her, and kills her.

We left at half time

Tedious and uninspiring such a travesty for what is a brilliant opera by Bizet. Never did figure why the lead had to be dressed as a gorilla - really! It was as unSpanish as it possibly could be, no vibrant, flamboyant consumes, just funereal dark and eternally somber. So pleased when the interval came so we could relieved of the monotony and boredom
