Starring one of theatreland’s best-loved performers

Theatreland royalty Carrie Hope Fletcher (Cinderella, Les Miserables) plays Jane. A respected singer-songwriter, author and YouTube and social media star, her recent roles include The Crown Jewels in the West End and on tour, Sleeping Beauty at Marlowe Theatre, Caucasian Chalk Circle at the Rose Theatre Kingston. She played the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella in the West End.

Carrie played Young Eponine aged 9 in Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre, older Eponine and Fantine, and wowed us in Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, A Christmas Carol, The Addams Family, Heathers The Musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Mary Poppins. She is apparently delighted to take the role, which blends action, romance and comedy into one positive, fun, colourful package.

The producer is Jamie Wilson Productions Company, which gave us Mrs Doubtfire, Sister Act, Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Who is Calamity Jane in love with?

Meet the bold, brave gun slinging Calamity Jane, best friend of Wild Bill Hickock. A woman with a big mouth, she fights her way around Dakota like she owns the place. But while she’s a tough nut she’s no slouch on the charm front, something handsome Lieutenant Gilmartin quickly finds out. When the Chicago theatre star Adelaid Adams hits Deadwood and the town’s men can’t keep their eyes off her, Calamity struggles to control her jealousy... but which man is she actually in love with?

Based on the beautiful movie starring Doris Day and Howard Keel, Calamity Jane’s memorable score includes The Black Hills of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Just Blew in from the Windy City, and Secret Love.

Adapted for the stage by Charles K. Freeman and based on the screenplay by James O’Hanlon, the music is by Sammy Fain and the lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. This time around it is co-directed and choreographed by Nick Winston (Shrek the Musical). The musical supervisor is Catherine Jayes (The Colour Purple) and the costume designer is Matthew Wright. Lighting designer Tim Mitchell, sound designer Ben Harrison and casting director Debbie O’Brien complete the creative team.

Producer Jamie Wilson is thrilled to be collaborating with the Watermill, bringing this gorgeous extravaganza back to the UK’s theatres for the first time in a decade.
